Although they lost in the final they still went to Worthing where they won there first round match before loosing in the second round.

League Results

The last 3 rounds of the mens league have been completed since my last update and the good news is that Carterton remain in the first division to fight on another year. They did so by taking 5 points from Headington on week 12, sharing 3 points each with West Witney on a washed out game week 13 and scraping 2 points from Bicester in the final week.

Full league results can be found at; http://bowlsoxfordshire.co.uk/obaoxleague.htm

The ladies had an excellent 8-2 victory over Hanborough followed by a washout the following week so they shared the points 5-5. In the end of season match Hanborough more than got their own back winning 10-0. As a result, the ladies find themselves in the strong position of supporting all the teams above them.

County Semi-finals (Correction)

Another excellent result saw one of our remaining pairs; Andy Wise with Stuart Richens win through to the semis. So too did both the triples skipped by Paul Sharman & Baden Sparkes. Unfortunately our triples have drawn each other in the semis but the good news is that the winners are on their way to Worthing.

Congratulations also to Darren Wakeman who sneaked in under the radar to qualify for the U25's singles semi-final. Take heart Darren, the correspondent who missed your QF result has been banished to the southern hemisphere!

All semi finals take place at Charlbury on Sunday 12th July. Pairs and singles at 10.30am and trips (along with the rinks) at 2pm. Good luck to everyone involved.

Carterton to Host County Under 25 Match

A resurgent Oxfordshire Under 25 team come to Carterton this Sunday 27th June. The mixed fixture against Wiltshire under 25s begins at 10:30. Under new management the Oxfordshire side have rekindled their team spirirt and, after tough matches against Berkshire in the Junior Home Counties League and Middlesex in the 2x4s, they will be on a high having beaten a strong Surrey outfit 10-4 at the weekend.

The team for Sunday has now been announced. Carterton have four representatives: Daniel & Darren Wakeman, Ryan Full and Sam Muir. Sam also has the privilege of captaining the side on home soil in his last match before departing for Australia in the absence of regular captain Chris Miles.

We strongly encourage everyone who can to come and support the Oxfordshire side. The bar will be open and sunshine has been requested!

League Results

  • Despite Carterton having 3 successful rink wins the visiting West Witney team held Carterton men to a 3-3 draw. • Those 8 points won in week one seem a long time ago for Carterton ladies: West Witney took a clean sweep on Wednesday. Next week is a rest week in the league. Carterton ladies have a friendly away to Charlbury.

Top Club Exit

Headington once again got the better of a tight contest against a spirited Carterton outfit. Stuart Richens took the 2 wood singles to an extra end and Andy Wise made it to 16 in the four wood singles but both failed to record a point for the home side. Needing to win all three of the remaining games Carterton faced an uphill challenge but were in with a good shout: Sharman's triple were running away with their game and there was nothing between the sides' pairs and fours teams. Unfortunately a strong finish on by the Headington pair pulled the visitors across the line.

Then Paul Sharman pulled back and 5-1 was on the cards; then back to 4-2 and going into the last end 3-3 was possible but Pauls rink held on to make it a 4-2 win for Carterton.
